MORE

Currently @ Levi Strauss and Co. I began working with the Levi’s Design Innovation team to create garments for the Wellthread collection.  Denim is a messy industry– this collection is centered around research and implementation of innovative materials and construction methods with the goal of finding solutions to reduce impact on the planet and communities.  Some of these solutions began at the growing stage for materials used in the fabric all the way to the biodegradability of the denim’s dyes and trims.  The overall objective was to test these solutions then carry them into the mainline to affect positive change at our largest scale. Following my time on the Innovation team, I designed menswear for Dockers focusing on tops – including wovens, cut and sew knits, sweaters and outerwear.  This has helped round out my garment design experience by working on many different categories and use non-denim fabrics.  I was also able to work with performance garments for urban commuters and golf, allowing me to combine my love for athletic products and casual/refined menswear.

Background– Since I was young, I’ve been obsessed with products.  It stemmed from a love for sports and the gear that enabled athletes to perform at the highest level.  Watching athletes sit down with designers to discuss their latest signature footwear encouraged me to enter the field of design.  I knew this would be the one genre of work that would never cease to captivate me– although the focus of my obsession has evolved over the years. Clothing provides me the tension between creativity and utility I seek in design.  I appreciate the historical precedents and functional details of workwear and sportswear as well as the silhouettes and experimentation of avant garde fashion.
